The advance of public and municipal Golf in Spain in recent years, and the consequent suppression of the “elitist” label of the game, has the city of Gijón as the greatest exponent and directly responsible for it; fundamentally as a consequence of the construction, management and start-up of the first municipal golf course owned and managed directly in our country. The La Llorea Municipal Golf Course, a course that is located on the land of the old Lloreda Farm. Located on a coastal level, it rises about 100 meters above sea level, which is very close, it is divided into two parts by National Highway 632, which crosses it.
In the northern area are the first 9 holes, a 1st round that punishes players who open the ball; unlike the 9 holes in the south area. Its design, made by Roland Favré, is therefore perfectly balanced.
The best and most emblematic holes of the 1st round are hole 4, a par 4 of 406 meters with a very small green, without front obstacles but with many problems on the back and both sides; and hole 7, which is a good par 4 of 405 meters. Already in the 2nd round we find the two best par threes on the course: the 13th hole of 188 meters and a wide green but very short at the bottom, and the 16th hole another par 3 of 207 meters that is played practically all year round. with headwind. In short, it is a course that is not excessively long, although it is technical, which will be enjoyed by golfers of all levels.
Among other services, the course has a practice field and greens, croquet lawn, gym, indoor room, hotel, cafeteria/restaurant, shop and golf school.
One of the essential strategic objectives in the activity of the facilities, since its commissioning, is to encourage and promote the practice of golf among the youngest.
