Los cines por venir es una reflexión sobre el cine contemporáneo a través de conversaciones que interpelan a otras artes y disciplinas.

Sixteen directors with their own voice participate in Los cines por venir, with whom Atehortúa talks without restrictions about cinema in general and their respective works in particular, confronting their points of view and analysing the panorama of contemporary creation. All of this with one aim: to investigate what cinema provides that other disciplines cannot give us. Many of the interviewees are nowadays established filmmakers whose films were first highlighted in Spain by FICX when their work was not recognised and/or understood.

Los cines por venir features Béla Tarr, Víctor Erice, Mariano Llinás, Rita Azevedo Gomes, Víctor Gaviria, Lucrecia Martel, Alice Rohrwacher, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Carlos Reygadas, Kelly Reichardt, Lav Diaz, Radu Jude, Albert Serra, Pedro Costa, Albertina Carri and the much-missed Luis Ospina.

Atehortúa, producer of Mercedes Gaviria's Como el cielo después de llover, winner of the Young Jury Prize at FICX in 2020, shows a contiguity of ideas between filmmakers while generating illuminating frictions between their positions. Although these dialogues can be read independently, they were written and arranged so that each contains the memory of the previous ones.

Los cines por venir is addressed to those who sense that cinema can continue to be seen as a living, dialectical experience.
